Within Reach – a leather stamping collection from Carlisle, Kentucky
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies.
A September study. Volume I-A.
For Carlisle, Kentucky – where a giraffe will lean over the rail for the leaf in your hand. We pressed four residents of that kind of day into leather, and called the collection Within Reach.
First, the giraffe. We ran the neck the full height of an upright tag and bent the head back down toward the words – the way it comes down at feeding time. LOOK UP.
It travels across a deep green tag and a golden tan one. The black tag carries the gold.
Next, we hung the two-toed sloth under a single branch and set TAKE YOUR TIME beneath it. A journal keeps the same advice – the good pages come slowly.
It looks genuinely beautiful in the corner of a deep green journal, and warmer still on warm tan.
Then the capybaras – three calm profiles in a row, exactly as they line up at feeding time, above the one word that fits them. UNBOTHERED.
We stamped it where a day's clutter goes to settle down: the corner of a toiletry bag in warm tan over chestnut, and the base of a golden tan catchall tray.
And finally, two parakeets bowing over one seed stick, with STICK TOGETHER beneath them – the same promise a keychain makes.
Keychains in golden tan and in pale sea-blue. The pale sea-blue one is the one we'd carry.
