The aster is the birth flower for September, and its name comes from the Greek word for star, after the ring of narrow petals around its center. Asters open as the summer garden fades, often the last purple in the beds before frost. Ours faces forward with sixteen narrow petals around a small disc, on a straight stem with two slim leaves. Aster sits beneath in brush script as the sample, with SEPTEMBER in engraved capitals. Type her name at checkout, up to ten letters, and it takes the flower's place.
