The Boca Raton Almanac – an original leather stamping collection for Boca Raton, Florida

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of original leather design studies.

A September study – Volume I-B.

The Boca Raton Almanac – original stamps drawn from Boca Raton's own story and pressed into leather. Luggage tags, journals and so on.

First, the building. We drew the 1927 Town Hall from the period elevation – the long low facade, the bell dome over the roofline – and set BOCA RATON above it with the year beneath. It looks genuinely beautiful.

The black tag carries the gold; the second tag wears the masonry's own pale greige.

Next, the iron. Mizner Industries forged the grilles that gave the young city its texture, and its workshops distressed the metal to make it look older than it was – so we drew a grille panel with WROUGHT IN BOCA RATON on the ribbon. Leather comes by that patina honestly.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then, the airfield. During the war this was the Army Air Corps' only airborne radar training field, so we sent a trainer climbing through its own signal – WHERE RADAR LEARNED TO FLY.

After that, 1981. The personal computer built here was code-named Acorn, so the acorn grew circuit traces for roots – THE ACORN WAS PLANTED HERE. On the black journal it presses as a quiet shadow relief.

And finally, the shoreline. Boca Raton keeps five miles of Atlantic coastline, so the sun rises over exactly five ruled lines of water – one per mile – above FIVE MILES OF ATLANTIC. The tag is pale sea-blue; the tray, golden tan.
