By Heart – a leather stamping collection about favorite candy

A September study. Volume II – an informed synthesis.
By Heart is a small leather collection about knowing someone's favorite candy without being told. Anyone can buy sweets; knowing which one is the actual gift. We pressed that kind of knowing into leather, where it keeps.
First, we lined up six identical wrapped candies and let one rise out of the row, with PLAYING FAVORITES underneath. The rule says no favorites. The candy counter has never once enforced it.
It runs the long way down the luggage tag. Pale rose and warm red first, then a deep pine green to settle the trio down.
Next, the keychains. One plump wrapped candy over a single word – YOURS. The shortest sentence in gift-giving, and it fits on a fob.
The black fob carries the gold pass. In every box of chocolates the gold-wrapped piece is the one saved for somebody, so here the whole candy went gold.
Then the toiletry bags. Where the arrow usually goes, we shot a lollipop clean through the heart, and set SWEET ON YOU beneath – the old idiom, taken at its word.
It sits small in the lower corner of the honeyed russet and deep espresso stack – caramel candy over dark chocolate.
The catchall tray has been a candy dish all along. Eight sweets circle the words HELP YOURSELF – the dish's standing invitation, still standing after the candy is gone.
In golden tan it looks like the dish at a grandparent's house, the one that was somehow always full.
And finally, the one we liked the most, and the collection's namesake. A candy heart in its twist wrapper above the words BY HEART. A favorite is a learned thing – the flavor, the exact wrapper – and a journal is where learned things get kept.
Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather. One in pale rose, one in deep wine.
