Carefully Kept – a leather stamp collection on the art of keeping things well
Carefully Kept – an original leather collection. Waterfall Volume I-C, a grounded study.
A September study.
Four stamps about keeping things well – the crate label, the wall plate, the bee at its bloom, the bud beside the open flower.
First, we borrowed the label from the crate room. We ruled HANDLE WITH CARE between the fragile glass and the this-side-up arrows, the way a crated painting travels – and on a suitcase it means exactly the same thing.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather – here on warm caramel tan and on deep green.
The black tag carries the gold.
The same label went onto the toiletry bags, warm tan over chestnut – where the actually fragile things ride.
Next, we hung a bumblebee under an open bloom, exactly the way we found one working – and set DAILY ROUNDS beneath it, for the keys that make theirs.
On the golden tan fob the bee looks right at home; the deep green one carries the leaf's side of the story.
Then we gave the catchall tray a museum wall plate: PERMANENT COLLECTION, and in smaller letters below, ACQUISITIONS DAILY. Whatever the day brings home, the tray accessions it.
And finally, the one we liked the most. Two stems from one root – a bud still nodding, a poppy fully open – with IN GOOD TIME beneath them. A journal is where the days between the two get kept.
It looks genuinely beautiful – on pale rose and on deep green, the poppy's outline stays white against the leather.
