A Day Well Spent, Volume III – a Northport, New York leather collection

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

An August study.

For Northport, New York – Volume III, a leather collection called A DAY WELL SPENT.

This volume follows one village Saturday, morning to lights out. First, we sent a diamond kite up over the harbor park and lettered the old sendoff over it – GO FLY A KITE, meant kindly for once.

Keychains with the kite, in pale sea-blue and poppy red, look just awesome.

Next, the cardboard-boat test. Once a year this harbor races boats built of cardboard and optimism, so we folded one, taped the seam, and stamped it with the only rating that matters here – SEAWORTHY ENOUGH.

Looks great pressed into the corner of the toiletry bags.

Then, the errand this village does best – a present for somebody. We set PACKED WITH LOVE in one long line and tied a string bow over the word LOVE, so the last word travels gift-wrapped.

The black tag carries the gold. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

Home by dark, and the day gets emptied at the dresser. We gave the catchall tray its standing order – EMPTY YOUR POCKETS – ringed by the small ransom a pocket gives up at the end of a day.

Pressed into the golden tan tray, it looks genuinely beautiful.

And finally, the line before bed. Under a small crescent moon the journal says it plainly – WRITE DOWN THE GOOD PARTS.

It turned out to be the one we would keep ourselves.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
