Extra Fancy – a leather collection from the pear packing house
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
Volume I-A – A September study.
Extra Fancy is the grade a packing house saves for the fruit it chooses first. We took that world of tissue wraps and hand grading and pressed it into a small leather collection about choosing well.
First, the luggage tags. We wrapped a pear in packing tissue and set the trade's own promise underneath – TRAVELS WELL. A fair thing to ask of luggage too.
The tags stand upright in golden tan and deep green. The black tag carries the design in gold foil.
Next, the toiletry bags. We cut a round grader's stamp, EXTRA FANCY arched over a small pear and PACKED BY HAND closing the ring below, and pressed it into the lower corner of the bags – honeyed russet over chestnut.
Then the keychains. A solid pear with a single leaf, and HAND PICKED underneath – you give it to someone who was. It comes in warm tan and deep green.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
The tray took the widest canvas. We drew a packed case from above – offset rows of fruit inside a crate-label border, with EVERY GOOD THING IN ITS PLACE along the bottom band. At the end of a day, that is the tray's whole job.
And finally, the journals. A small pear above the words WORTH KEEPING sits in the lower corner, in deep brown and warm tan – a journal being the place where such things go.
