Finders Keepers – a leather stamping study for rock collectors
Volume I-D. A September study.
A small exhibition for the people who look down when they walk. Four stamps about finding things and keeping them, pressed into leather made to be carried and given.
First, we split the oldest rule of the hunt across an ammonite – FINDERS above the coil, KEEPERS below it. The fossil makes the argument for us: found once, kept for a hundred million years. The same coil rides the corner of the toiletry bags, honeyed russet over deep espresso brown.
The black keychain carries the coil in gold.
Next, the luggage tags. LEAVE NO STONE UNTURNED runs the length of the tag, and the stone in the picture has already been tipped over – a trilobite was waiting on the underside. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.
The black tag takes the phrase in gold; golden tan and navy carry it blind.
Then, the journals. In the lower corner sits a cabinet label reading SPECIMEN NO 1 OF MANY, two blank rules waiting underneath – every collector we have ever met confirms the first one never stays alone. One journal in warm mid-gray, one in deep wine.
And finally, the one we liked the most. On the catchall tray, a ring of tumbled stones circles the words ONE MORE, and we left a gap in the ring on purpose – there is always room. The tray, in golden tan, is where the day's pocket finds come to land.
