AAV Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

AAV Travel designs tailored trips from Terre Haute, Indiana. The founder, Stefanie P., is originally from Switzerland, and the title she works under is one we have carried around the shop all month: “Experience Architect.” Her planning language dwells on timing and pacing, on how each day of a trip should flow. That habit of attention is what drew us in.

The mark rewards a die maker. Three thin geometric capitals sit above a bright cyan rule, and beneath the rule runs “VACATION DESIGNERS” in letterspaced caps. We debated dropping that bottom line at tag scale, since letterspaced capitals that small tend to fill in when the leather swells around the die. Pressed lengthwise, the tag gave the line room, so it stayed.

Pale sea-blue takes its cue from the cyan rule, and country gray keeps faith with the charcoal type. Black carries the gold foil, as it always does.

Experience Architect

Stefanie's title asked for a drawing of its own. We set a drafting compass above the words EXPERIENCE ARCHITECT, its pencil leg mid-swing, and let the arc it draws become a dashed flight path. An architect plots the line before anyone travels it, and that seemed like the truest picture of her work we could press into leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
