All American Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
All American Travel books trips from Dickinson, North Dakota, and puts its whole case in one line: “Using an Advisor Enhances Your Overall Travel Experience.” The claim survives a read of their own pages, where the destination writing sounds firsthand and the travel tips sound earned. Somebody there has stood in the places they send you, and in this trade that is worth more than any crest.
The header carries the name in plain dark type, and that plain type is the entire visible mark. Honest, in its way – a shop this size lets the work do the announcing. Still, a name that stretches from a storefront on 15th Street to all of America seemed to want a figure above it, so we drew one: a compass circle whose north point breaks through the rim to reach a five-point star. The needle leaves the instrument. We went back and forth on whether the broken rim would read as damage before it read as departure; pressed at tag scale, departure won, though we would understand if they saw it the other way.

The live site turned our color tools away at the door, so the leathers here are our own guess at the brand's temper. Blueberry for the long haul out, country gray for the interstate that starts it. The gold rides on black.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
