Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies in leather.

An August study.

For Benton Seventh-day Adventist Church.

First, we drew Benton the way Polk County sits – a mountain ridge above and the river beneath, with BENTON held between them.

The tags run forest green for the Cherokee woods and navy for the river water. The black tag carries the gold. It looks genuinely beautiful.

Next, a seal for the church's own name – BENTON SDA CHURCH ringed around an open Bible, the book the whole week turns on, from Sabbath School on Saturday morning to prayer meeting on Wednesday night.

It sits small in the corner of the toiletry bags, honeyed russet over deep espresso.

Then, Sabbath – kept the old way, sundown to sundown. On the fob the sun is half gone behind the ridge, and beneath it we wrote SUNSET TO SUNSET.

Then we took Polk County at its word – "Where the Mountains Meet the River" – and drew that meeting for the catchall tray, two slopes coming down to the water. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And finally, the one we liked the most. We set a small oil lamp above the King James line, THY WORD IS A LAMP UNTO MY FEET, and pressed it into the corner of the journals, where a hand rests when the writing begins. In deep wine and warm tan.
