BespokeAbility Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

BespokeAbility Travel is a travel agency in Greenville, South Carolina. Kaylea Shuck founded it after her father began using a wheelchair and she watched how much of travel drifts out of reach once mobility becomes a daily question. She brought an MBA and more than a decade of client service to the answer, and built the practice on quality and customization, with inclusion standing beside them as a named pillar. “Luxury isn’t a price point,” she says, and the coined name makes the same argument by joining bespoke to ability.

The monogram is what asked for the study. A large serif B and A overlap across a thin gold wireframe globe, curved lines of longitude and latitude running behind the letters, solid compass points at the four cardinal edges. Serif capitals at that weight are nearly a die drawing already. The globe is the harder part, since hairline curves in leather either hold or vanish with the depth of the press, and we wanted to see which.

Pressed

We pressed the compact BA globe on pale sea-blue and pale gray-sand, the water and the shore of their own imagery, both as blind debosses. On black the mark goes down in gold foil. The foil sits close to the warm ochre their site samples, or close enough; metallics drift between screens, and we matched by eye. The wireframe held at full depth, which we had doubted.

Elevate your journey

Their live tagline reads “TRAVEL DESIGNED TO ELEVATE YOUR JOURNEY.” We took the word at face value and drew a hot-air balloon with a suitcase for a basket, riding above the line ELEVATE YOUR JOURNEY. A piece of luggage that floats seemed the right emblem for an agency working to lift the barriers out of travel.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
