Camerieri's Zeppole Mix × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Camerieri's Zeppole Mix.

First, we designed a little mark for you. The paper bag is stamped 00 for the imported Italian flour, and the powdered sugar bursts out the top with three zeppole caught mid-toss.

For the warm-up, we set the name as it reads today and pressed it lengthwise along a warm tan luggage tag.

Next, the trip. In 1976 the recipe left Brooklyn for Safety Harbor, so we drew a single zeppola flying the whole way – off the bridge and down to the palms, trailing powdered sugar. Half a million zeppole later, by the family's own count, the trail still runs.

Then the instruction every zeppola obeys before it is eaten. We pressed SHAKE THE BAG into the corner of the toiletry bags, sugar in mid-orbit – warm tan over chestnut, the colors of dough coming out of the fryer.

The new mark travels small too. On a warm tan keychain, it looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And on the golden tan catchall tray, the mark at full size – the dish where the keys land every night.

And finally, the signoff. Every note from the family ends with “Ciao, grazie” – so a pale greige journal carries CIAO over GRAZIE in the lower corner, a drift of sugar rising off the last O.
