Colloquium on Violence & Religion × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Colloquium on Violence & Religion.

For the warm-up, we pressed the COV&R mark into the toiletry bags – blind deboss in the lower right corner, black stacked over deep brown, the red and black lockup settling into pure relief.

Next, we drew the first lesson of mimetic theory: two hands reaching for the same apple, under the words WE WANT WHAT OTHERS WANT.

It went onto the luggage tags, since a baggage carousel is a small mimetic crisis – every suitcase imitating every other. The trio pairs black with the warm poppy red of the ampersand, and a pale sand tag stands in for the white field. The black tag carries the stamp in gold foil.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

And finally, the one we liked the most. THE FIRST STONE – a single smooth stone at rest on the ground, meaning the one nobody threw.

On the keychains it becomes a stone you carry in the pocket, blind debossed in pale warm greige and black.

The journals take it in deep wine beside pale sand, for the pages where the argument belongs. It looks genuinely beautiful.
