Crawford's Interior Design × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A August study.
This month we pressed for Crawford's Interior Design, Inc., the Central Florida practice of Sandy Crawford. Her Houzz profile lists her plainly as "Sandy Crawford, Interior Designer" and files the work under "Interior Design - residential and commercial," showing fifteen projects and a 5.0 rating across fifteen reviews. The reviews are the striking part. Clients describe engagements running fifteen and twenty years, houses handed from one project to the next. A practice like that keeps its circle close, and a small circle is exactly what a pressed leather gift is made for.
The mark, as found
Our audit found plain type doing all the work of identity across her public listings; a developed corporate logo never surfaced. The first plate documents the name as we found it, CRAWFORD'S INTERIOR DESIGN in plain capitals, before we propose anything of our own.
The mark this study proposes
We call it The Open Room. On an architect's floor plan there is one universally understood gesture of welcome: a door drawn open, its quarter-circle swing scribed onto the drawing. Our proposed mark is a single room in plan view, the bottom wall broken by a doorway, the leaf swung fully inward with its arc traced behind it, and CRAWFORD'S set beneath in letterspaced capitals. Houzz reviewers keep describing a designer who listens first and shapes the room around the life already in it; a door standing open struck us as the honest way to draw what they report. This is a study and a proposal, nothing more. It claims no standing as her mark.
Pressed
Three upright luggage tags carry the mark blind debossed, every color pulled from the rooms in her portfolio. Dark espresso answers the near-black case pieces and picture frames that anchor her interiors. Caramel takes the warm woods and parchment upholstery, and sicilian brown, a chestnut with visible pull-up character, sits between the two. In these renders the stamp reads as pressure alone, tone on tone, the way a maker's mark should sit on working leather.
The keychain duo pairs country gray with dark espresso, both blind debossed, the lockup centered below the rivet. The gray is a warm one, taken from the single contemporary sitting room among her projects. The doorway gap is the fragile part at fob scale, and we drew the swing arc a shade lighter than the walls to protect it; whether that balance holds in brass is the question a first pressing would settle.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
