Three luggage-tag studies for Crème School

An August study.
Three small departures for every chapter of childhood
The Crème School of Chanhassen serves children from infancy through age twelve with daycare, preschool, kindergarten, school-age care, and summer camp. Its current public page names Krista Pehl as Executive Director and describes a leadership team responsible for staff, operations, curriculum, and quality. The school’s language is equally clear about the larger promise: enriching programs, exceptional care, and support for every chapter of childhood.
The visible system pairs bright aqua with cream, deep blue-green, black linework, and one coral accent. Above the wordmark sits a small ornamental construction with a shallow dome, a tiny top point, and mirrored leaves. These independent studies do not reproduce that crest, the Crème name, the flower or cloche emblem, a copied enrichment icon, or a faux school seal. Instead, three fragments become ordinary scenes: the shallow dome rises over an open book, the mirrored rhythm becomes two paper planes leaving one point, and the grave accent in Crème becomes a playground slide.
As leather luggage tags, the ideas could be considered for approved educator milestones, staff recognition, leadership gatherings, family events, graduating families, summer-program teams, or year-end thanks. They are deliberately adult objects connected to childhood rather than childish merchandise. Each picture reads before its explanation—a book and sunrise, two planes taking off, and a slide ready for use—while the second read belongs specifically to this school’s visual language and its idea of many beginnings.
Leather and treatment
Bright aqua, warm cream-tan, and deep blue-green leather carry the public palette into a calm material family. Deep tonal impressions keep the drawings grown-up and useful. A restrained antique-brass line on blue-green offers one celebratory treatment while preserving exactly the same tooling.
The three concepts
1. Open Book Sunrise
A half-sun and five broad rays rise from the center fold of an open book. The familiar first read joins a new morning to a new chapter; the shallow central arc quietly borrows the crest’s domed construction without copying its ornament.
2. Two Paper Planes
Two paper airplanes lift in opposite directions from one small starting point. Their matched launch rhythm turns the crest’s paired-leaf symmetry into a plain picture of children setting off from the same school.
3. The Accent Slide
A sturdy playground slide is built from one strong descending diagonal and a simple three-rung ladder. The chute preserves the angle of the grave accent in Crème, but the result stands alone as the most ordinary object on a playground.
