Destinations Ahead × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Destinations Ahead is Jennifer Hawthorn’s travel agency in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Jennifer, a lifelong Clark County resident, says she found her calling in travel in 2007, and she has since ranged across the United States and well beyond it, from the Caribbean to Europe. She advises with CTA and MCC credentials, and between trips she lives on a farm with her husband Scott and a Maltese named Zin, happiest with a good book and a cup of coffee.
Her badge is what stopped us. Two blues make up the interlocked DA, the A rising into a triangular peak with a small airplane climbing off it while light route strokes sweep across the letters. Beneath the serif capitals runs a tiny line of type: “LET’S TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED”. A mark that already carries motion and a creed has done half our work before the press warms up.
The mark, as found

Pressed lengthwise
The lockup runs the long way down the tag. Blueberry and turquoise came first, the pair of leathers that answer the mark’s own dark D and its brighter route strokes. Black takes the lockup in gold foil. Those sweeping strokes are the thin element here; we half expected them to close up at tag scale, and in the renders they hold, though the die itself will have the final say.

The road less traveled
For the companion we let her tagline draw the picture. A straight, well-worn road runs ahead while a narrower one bends away from the fork and ends in an airplane lifting off, with the line itself set beneath. Portrait, so it stands upright like a signpost at the junction.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
