D’Luca × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

D’Luca Luxury Travel Designers do what the name promises: experienced travel designers building tailored luxury itineraries worldwide, with the client in the room at every turn. Founder and CEO Laura Morga Morillo spent nine years as a travel advisor before that experience, and her plain love of the work, catalyzed a company of her own. She counts travel and family among her passions, and you can hear both in the agency’s claim that “no two itineraries are the same” and in its habit of staying invested in a client’s wellbeing for the whole arc of a trip. As best we can place them, they work out of Cary, North Carolina.

The wordmark asked for the die almost on its own. Wide serif capitals sit white on a warm near-black field, and in the middle of them an apostrophe drawn large enough to read as an emblem. High-contrast serifs are what a brass stamp was made for; the thick strokes press deep while the hairlines stay crisp. The small letterspaced descriptor underneath gave us pause at tag scale. We kept it, though on a smaller die we would let it go and trust the five letters and their apostrophe to carry the name.

Pressed lengthwise

Dark espresso and gray-sand made the pair, the espresso following the site’s warm near-black field and the sand its pale editorial counterfield. Black carries the gold foil, as black tends to.

No two itineraries

Their own sentence, so we drew it a picture. Two travel routes cross the tag, distinct in shape, one of them looping back on itself the way a good trip sometimes does, above the line NO TWO ITINERARIES ARE THE SAME. Lengthwise again, since routes want room to run.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
