Three brand-art luggage-tag studies for DSB Rock Island
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world organizations.
An August study.
A clear frame, an orderly rhythm, one useful direction
DSB Rock Island provides accounting, tax, audit, advisory, business-management, payroll, and wealth-management services. Its public promise is unusually direct: help clients grow a business, protect wealth, and enjoy success. The firm supports that promise with discovery, a team-based approach, and ongoing support.
The current identity gives those ideas a compact visual structure. A warm-copper rectangle contains one large block beside two smaller stacked blocks, while a small circular spark interrupts the center of the lower rule. Deep navy carries the large statements; copper marks the points where something useful happens. These studies separate those ingredients and turn each into an ordinary object before the brand connection appears.
As leather luggage tags, the concepts could suit an employee milestone, leadership retreat, recruiting occasion, client event, vendor thank-you, integration milestone, or year-end recognition. None reproduces the DSB Rock Island name or complete emblem. The result is quieter than promotional merchandise and more specific than a generic business gift.
Leather and treatment
Deep navy, warm tan, and charcoal leather carry one repeated die within each family. Blind impressions keep the first two tags reserved; a restrained antique-copper line on the third recalls the identity's small action points without recreating the logo.
The three concepts
1. The Latched Window
A two-pane casement window closes around one centered bottom latch. Its frame, interrupted lower rail, round knob, and downward handle inherit the mark's most recognizable construction while becoming something anyone opens at the start of a day.

2. One Tall, Two Stacked
One tall ribbon-marked book stands beside two shorter books stacked flat on the same shelf. The arrangement restates the exact one-large-beside-two-small rhythm inside the lockup, with no letters required.

3. Three-Board Trail Signpost
Three equal blank fingerboards point in one direction from a single post. The homepage's three equal process stages become a plain trail sign, while the circular foot quietly remembers the point that interrupts the logo's baseline.

These are independent design studies for appropriate team, partner, collaborator, donor, adviser, vendor, volunteer, or client occasions. No affiliation or endorsement is implied. Every image is a render used to test the object before cutting a physical die.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual.
