Dune Travel Group × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Dune Travel Group is the full-service luxury travel agency Tiffany Cornelius leads from Kalamazoo, Michigan, eight advisors working under a Virtuoso affiliation through Coastline Travel. They design trips by hand, from custom honeymoons to long international itineraries, and their homepage promises “moments you will never forget” while treating every client as a VIP. We admire a promise written that plainly.

Kalamazoo sits an easy drive from Lake Michigan's dune coast, so the name carries real sand. The wordmark carries it too, in its own reserved way. DUNE TRAVEL runs in a dark slate serif, uppercase and steady, with GROUP set small and widely spaced beneath it. Letterspacing that generous is a gift to a stamping die; the counters stay open at tag scale, and the small word reads clean where tighter setting would fill in. A mark this settled asks to be pressed exactly as found.

Pressed lengthwise

Blueberry meets the identity's dark slate head on, while caramel answers the site's pale dune and sand accents. Black is the automatic third and carries the mark in gold. The wordmark runs lengthwise, since a setting this wide wants the whole long axis of the tag.

Ridge to route

We started with footprints, since the site promises moments that outlast forgetting, and the wind disagreed; on a dune, tracks are the first thing to go. What stays is the ridge. So the design lets one wind-drawn crest run until it breaks into a dashed route and lands on a small airplane, with DUNE TRAVEL GROUP reading along the line. Whether it reads as sand or as flight path depends on how long you look, and we have stopped deciding.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
