Duxbury Oyster Designs × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Duxbury Oyster Designs.

First, we designed a little logo for you. It turned out amazing. A single pearl sits at the hinge of the shell, and all nine ribs radiate out of it – the whole mark grows from one small, well-placed point.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather. We pressed it onto a pair of keychains – pale sea-blue for the bay, warm caramel for the dock.

Next, the name as it stands, in plain capitals. We ran it lengthwise along three luggage tags, from deep navy through pale shell sand to pale sea-blue.

We set the same plain type low on the toiletry bags, deep navy over chestnut.

And finally, the one we liked the most. An oyster has one answer to grit – it coats it in pearl until the irritation is the treasure. So we cradled a single pearl in the open shell and arched GRIT MAKES THE PEARL above it.

A catchall tray is where pockets empty at the end of the day – a shell for collecting grit. On golden tan it looks genuinely beautiful.

And a journal is where the grit gets written down until it turns into something worth keeping – one cover in pale sand, one in deep navy.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
