Fink × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Fink.

First, we designed a little logo for you. It turned out amazing. We planted FINK waist-deep in a band of winter gorse and left the whole sky above it empty – the album cover, performed by the name itself.

On the luggage tags it runs lengthwise, in the cover's own leathers. Dark espresso for the peat and pale greige for the chalk sky; the third tag carries the gorse itself, in honeyed russet.

And for the sake of completeness, the FINK type as it stands today, pressed as found. The black tag carries it in gold foil.

Next, the passports. The tour leaves in August and keeps moving deep into autumn, so the covers carry WISHING FOR BLUE SKY – one small figure lying low in the gorse line, and above it all the empty sky a departure is for. One cover in pale sea-blue, the sky being wished for; one in pale greige, the sky as it is.

Then the rule the record was made under – nothing in the room newer than 1974. We drew a tape reel letting its tape run out into an open road, the album's title set beneath it, so the record keeps a head start on the city that is coming to erase it.

The kit bags stack honeyed russet over dark espresso, and the golden tan tray is where a night's pockets land between shows.

Then the keychains, after TWO MAGPIES – two birds on one wire, their white bellies left to the leather. Keychains travel as a pair, so the count stays at two. Two for joy. The black fob takes the stamp in gold foil – magpies go where the glint is.

And finally, the journals. A five-bar tally above MEMORISE YOUR SENSES – one stroke for each sense, cut the way a take is counted on a tape box, stamped low in the corner where a hand rests. Chestnut and pale greige.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
