First Class Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

First Class Travel is an Alabama agency with two beginnings. Shelly Phillips owned and ran restaurants before she started her travel agency in 2012; she works from McCalla. Kimberly Kiel, who studied art in Italy, opened hers in 2013 in nearby Pelham. Two independent businesses, later combined into one. Their about page draws a straight line from Shelly’s restaurant years to the way she looks after a traveler now, and the claim rings true to us, though we admit we know them only through their pages.
The homepage carries Travel Leaders’ 2026 Small Agency of the Year, and beneath it a line worth quoting whole: “Exceptional service is at the heart of everything we do – because your journey deserves nothing less.” The mark earned this study on its own, though. A fine double circle in gold, left open ever so slightly at the right, encloses a tall serif FIRST CLASS over a smaller letterspaced TRAVEL. White on midnight. A seal, properly speaking, and a seal wants to be pressed.

The live art is white lettering on navy, and white lettering vanishes on a white proof sheet; we caught that early and worked from a composite on the dark field before touching leather. From there the palette carried over on its own, the midnight ground becoming a deep dark espresso and the cream typography a pale gray-sand. Black takes the gold foil and comes nearest to their ring.
The first call
The companion draws their own itinerary: “From the first call to your flight home”. We titled it THE FIRST CALL. A vintage handset lies low in the lower-left corner, drawn in one bold unbroken outline. Its cord makes three tight coils close to the mouthpiece. Then the loops widen, and the line breaks into a dashed flight path that climbs toward a small airplane at the top right, nose leading the last dash. Along the bottom, FROM THE FIRST CALL over TO YOUR FLIGHT HOME. We left the gold seal off this one; the handset holds the tag alone.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
