Footman Travel Agency × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Footman Travel Agency plans destination weddings and honeymoons out of Columbia, South Carolina, and books wedding cruises besides, handling the travel and the venue coordination so couples can keep their minds on the celebrating. Owner Cynthia Footman came to this by a long road: thirty-three years with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and more than thirty years of event planning alongside. These days she calls herself a “Travel Matchmaker” and says family sits at the heart of the wedding experience.
Her mark carries all of that. Metallic-gold FTA initials interlock at the top, and a broad gold route stroke loops around them and rises through the A into a small airplane bound for the upper right. Beneath, FOOTMAN in deep plum capitals, then TRAVEL AGENCY in smaller gold ones between thin rules. A tiny heart closes the lockup. A career spent moving people, sealed with a heart – the mark practically asked to be pressed.
The mark, as found

Pressed
We pressed the full lockup into honeyed indian summer, which answers the metallic gold of the route line and its airplane, and into dark espresso, which lends the plum FOOTMAN wordmark a classic dark partner. Black carries the mark in gold foil.

Travel Matchmaker
Cynthia's own phrase wanted a die of its own. Two small airplanes meet nose to nose, their dashed flight paths curving behind them to complete a heart, with TRAVEL MATCHMAKER set beneath in small capitals. We wondered whether dashes that fine would survive at tag scale; on the render they hold, though a real die will have the final word.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
