Garver & Garver Advertising, Inc. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.
An August study.
For Garver & Garver Advertising, Inc.
First, we designed a little logo for you. It turned out amazing. Two Garvers share the name, so we stacked them and let one grand ampersand hold the middle – a single focal point on an uncluttered field, the kind of ad this agency taught its contractors to run.

On the luggage tags it reads like a masthead. The black tag carries the gold.

Next, the piece of the agency's old advice we couldn't resist pressing: every ad needs a reason to call. So we drew the dial of the phone that rang in 1984 and set the reason at its center.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather – warm red for the call, warm mid-gray for the calm around it.

Then the journals. An empty frame, one dot dead center, ONE FOCAL POINT beneath – the whole doctrine of the uncluttered ad, pressed where the next campaign gets drafted. Pale warm greige and true black.

Then, for the trade this agency served: a thermostat drawn as a sun, its needle resting on seventy-two. SEVENTY-TWO AND SUNNY is the weather a good contractor sells, whatever the sky is doing.

The trio runs warm to cool, golden tan down to navy, with a pale sea-blue between.

And the name exactly as we found it, set plainly – the before to all of the above.

And finally, the new mark making its rounds through the rest of the goods. The black keychain takes the gold; everything else is pressed blind.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
