Grand Traverse Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Grand Traverse Travel is a third-generation family agency in Traverse City, Michigan – "3 Generations. 1 Mission." – with an office that looks out on Grand Traverse Bay. Their gold serif lockup does something we love: the A in TRAVEL is a compass needle pointing north. And the name underneath it all is old French – la grande traverseée, the great crossing the voyageurs made across the bay by canoe.
The mark, as found

Pressed
Navy blueberry for the bay their windows watch, caramel for the cognac leather sofa in their own office photo, and black – where a gold mark like theirs was born to live.

The great crossing
Then the second die, for the name itself: a voyageur canoe, two paddlers, one calm line of water and a north star – the crossing their town is named for, still being made three generations later.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
