Haus Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Haus Travel began in Oklahoma in 1975, when Lynn Leedy and Corinne Burkhart opened an agency that specialized in ski trips. When Lynn retired, Corinne took the reins. Her husband Sonny joined the work, and their son Blake Burkhart later followed the family into it; Blake owns the agency today. By their own account, a stubborn focus on customer service is what widened those ski trips into a full-service practice built around personal, seamless travel.

The name is the German word for house, and the mark commits to it. A thin warm-gray outline with a pitched roof stands over an interlocked double H, with HAUS then TRAVEL stacked in serif capitals below. An agency that draws a home around its own initials has stated its theory of the trade before you read a word. We did hesitate at the bench; the source file is compact, and a thin outline forgives little at die depth, so we redrew the house and the double H exactly as found and pressed with a lighter hand than usual.

Country gray answers the warm gray of the mark, and caramel picks up the beach light and family photographs that fill their site. Black, as ever, carries the gold.

Haus on skis

The agency spent its first years sending Oklahomans to the slopes, so the companion stamp puts their house on a pair of skis, gliding above SINCE 1975. A small joke with a true date under it, and the family has earned both.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
