IBA Business Brokers × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

IBA Business Brokers has been selling privately held Pacific Northwest companies since 1975, out of Bellevue and nine further offices reaching from Bellingham down to Bend. The firm describes itself as “The Pacific Northwest’s Premier Business Brokerage Firm Since 1975,” and there is arithmetic behind the confidence: more than 4,400 completed transactions, each one a “win-win” in the firm’s own vocabulary. The fee model deserves a pause. Compensation is 100% paid on performance, due when a transaction successfully completes, so broker and seller cross the finish line in the same stride.
Their emblem is a wide oval globe in antique gold and warm parchment. Serif capitals IBA hold the center, with a small plaque beneath reading “1975 - 2026.” The rim carries “Celebrating 51 Years of Professional Representation” above and “Of Pacific Northwest Entrepreneurs” below. Fifty-one years of confidential work on family-owned companies, many of them a founder’s life work changing hands exactly once. The emblem also handed us the palette for everything that follows.
Pressed – the oval globe
A mark with two rings of lettering and a date plaque survives only at generous scale, so the faithful emblem went to the product with the broadest open field. We pressed it blind, centered on the base of our arizona catchall tray, well clear of the stitched border. Arizona renders as golden tan in these photographs, a touch brighter than the hide in hand, and it sits naturally beside the antique gold of the original. The relief alone does the work here.
The skyline key
Somewhere inside every one of those 4,400 closings there is a moment when the keys change hands. We drew that key. The round bow carries the letters IBA. The shaft runs long and straight, and the bitting is cut upward as a Pacific Northwest skyline, one tall summit standing between lower shoulders. Turn it, and a life’s work passes quietly to its next steward, which is the whole trade of this firm compressed into a single object.
The key is a wide lockup, so the luggage tags run lengthwise. The black tag takes our single gold pass in this study, foil against near-black the way the emblem sets antique gold against its darkest line. Caramel and golden-tan arizona complete the family under blind deboss. We debated foiling more of the bundle, since the logo argues for gold; in the end the warm leathers carry that register on their own, and one gilded tag says it more clearly than three would.
On the toiletry bags the key shrinks to a maker’s mark in the lower right corner of each front face. The stack pairs caramel over dark espresso, parchment over near-black in the emblem’s own terms, and the press stays blind at this scale. The summit line still reads at a glance from across a hotel sink.
A key pressed on a keychain is the one joke we allowed ourselves, and it earns its keep. The duo pairs golden-tan arizona with dark espresso, stamped centered below the rivet with generous air inside the stitching. Blind deboss on both; at fob scale the mountain profile becomes almost a private signal between the giver and the keyring.
The journals close the set, and they suit a firm that runs monthly educational events and annual multi-day offsites. Black sits beside caramel, with the key as a compact mark in the lower right corner of each cover. On black the unfoiled press reads as a quiet shadow relief, a finish we have come to trust; on caramel it sits like a brand on saddle leather. A page for every deal note that never leaves the room.
