Interior Carpentry Design × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Interior Carpentry Design.

First, we designed a little logo for you. It turned out amazing. The letters ICD are held together by butterfly keys – the bowtie inlays a finish carpenter sets across a split so it never opens – with the company name ringed around them.

We pressed it on keychains, warm tan and deep espresso. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Next, the journals. The dimension line is drawn twice, and below it the kerf gets cut once – the oldest rule of the trade, kept on the cover of the book where the measuring happens. One journal in pale greige like drafting paper, one in chestnut.

Then the catchall tray in golden tan, for the pocketful of screws and pencil stubs a day on site produces. We drew a Dutch door with the top leaf swung open – HALF DOOR, WHOLE WELCOME. A mahogany Dutch door of theirs made print in 2018, and we could not resist.

For the sake of completeness, the company name set in plain capitals – and pressed on luggage tags in three timbers, golden tan down to deep espresso.

And finally, the one we liked the most. A through dovetail over the words HOLDS WITHOUT NAILS – cut the geometry right and the joint holds itself. The dopp kits stack honeyed russet over deep espresso. Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.
