JurniVacations × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
JurniVacations is a travel agency built around a pun its founder plainly loves. The story on the site belongs to Juli Shoup, a mother of four whose taste for travel grew on adventures with her children and who now writes from the far side of that season, an empty nester with the passports still warm. She and her husband co-own a second business that helps entrepreneurs with marketing and cash flow, which makes the agency read like the trip she finally planned for herself. Her tastes run to cruises and the Caribbean; Costa Rica gets named as a favorite. The site signs off with “Where will your next ‘jurni’ take you?” and that spelling, folded into a proper seal with a tiny gold palm above the name, is what brought us to the bench. Our own notes place her in Birmingham, Alabama.
The mark deserves a word. A thin double ring in deep navy encloses the mixed-case name, and above the letters sits a palm so small that at the source’s hundred pixels it nearly dissolves into its own horizon line. So we redrew the seal at pressing resolution, then checked the twin rings and the little palm against dark and light grounds until we trusted them. A coined name inside an owned circular seal is the kind of mark a die was invented for.

Blueberry took the navy of the double ring as if the seal had been drawn for it, and warm caramel answered the small gold palm. Black carried the whole mark in gold foil.
The empty nest departure
Her site closes on the pun, so our companion die opens on the feeling underneath it. In the lower left an empty nest of interwoven arcs rests on a stub of branch, its cup standing open; from the rim a trail of four short dashes climbs across the frame to a small airplane banking toward the corner. Along the bottom runs one line of plain capitals, NEXT JURNI. We debated giving the plane a contrail flourish and left it off; four dashes already say enough, or so we have convinced ourselves.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
