For Keeps – a leather gift collection about knowing someone well
A September study. Volume I-D.
For Keeps – a small collection about the things a person holds onto, and about choosing a gift well enough that it says you know them. Every design here is meant to be handed to someone in particular.
First, the luggage tags. Sailors once wore one swallow for the passage out and earned the second for the passage home, so we drew the homebound swallow above COME BACK WITH STORIES – the thing you actually mean when you drop somebody at the airport.
It runs lengthwise along the tag. The black tag carries the stamp in gold; navy and pale sea-blue take the blind press.
Next, the keychains. We set one old skeleton key above THE ONES THAT MATTER. On the ring the words mean the keys; handed over, they mean the person holding them.
Looks great when stamped onto the leather – deep wine for one temperament, warm tan for the other.
Then the toiletry bag. We put a rising sun over GOOD EVERY MORNING and pressed it into the corner, so it says its piece at every sink its owner ever stands at – here in honeyed russet over dark espresso.
Then the catchall tray in golden tan – a crescent moon over THE DAY ENDS HERE, with the emptied pocket settling beneath. That is what a catchall is for.
And finally, the one we liked the most. A string tied around a finger – the oldest promise to remember – above WORTH KEEPING. On a journal it makes a quiet argument that some of what happens to you deserves ink.
It looks genuinely beautiful – in deep green and in pale warm greige.
