An August study.

For Kern High School District.

The seal first, faithful down to its ring of stars, pressed into the golden tan of a catchall tray – where the keys and the red pens land at the end of the day.

The mission promises graduates leave “prepared to succeed,” so we set the first two words in type and let a proofreader's caret write the last one in by hand, the way corrections actually arrive in an English classroom. It runs lengthwise on the luggage tags, navy and black. The black tag carries the gold. The keychains take it blind, navy beside golden tan, and the toiletry stack wears it small in the corner, navy over deep brown.

Every journal is one. ROUGH DRAFT lands in the lower corner like the office stamp it is, a few degrees off square, on a navy cover and a warm tan one – permission, pressed in leather, to write the bad sentence first. The good one shows up in revision.
