Leisurely Travel Co. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Leisurely Travel Co. plans what its founder calls “dream vacations you’ll never forget,” and does it from Charleston, South Carolina. Lindsey came to the work the long way. Her fifteen years in tourism began with an internship at Disney World and moved through hotel meetings and events; later she promoted Charleston for the local tourism board. In 2021 she launched a travel blog, Leisurely Linds, and the planning practice grew out of it. She has been to more than twenty countries on five continents, and her promise to clients is planning “without the overwhelm” – their only job, she says, is to show up and make memories.

The name is what drew us. Leisurely is a brief in one word: it asks for slowness, for space between things, and the current wordmark honors that with widely spaced serif capitals in soft sage. It is a quiet mark, maybe too quiet; the pale letters thin out on a white page, and there is no device beside them to hold the eye. Pressed into leather, at least, type like this gains a shadow. We wanted to see how far that would carry it.

The mark this study proposes

Since the identity is type alone, we drew it a picture. A Lowcountry hammock hangs empty between two five-frond palms, above LEISURELY TRAVEL CO in the stacked arrangement she already uses. The empty hammock felt right for a planner whose clients are asked only to show up; everything is ready before they arrive. Five fronds per palm was a working limit, honestly – finer foliage clogs a die at luggage-tag scale, so five is where we stopped.

Pressed

The as-found type runs lengthwise across the tag and the proposed mark stands portrait. Both were pressed on deep forest green, which follows the sage of the live wordmark, and on pale gray-sand, which follows the warm neutrals of her site. Black carries the gold foil.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
