Lexicon Travels × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Lexicon Travels is a mother-and-daughter travel agency whose site signs off with two first names, Pam and Savannah, and whose promise is “bespoke adventures and luxury group travel” for clients who want a trip built to measure. The itineraries stretch from a private-yacht voyage through the Galápagos to, at the cold end of the map, Antarctica; when a traveler wants the journey to give something back, volunteerism or sustainability can be folded in. The agency works within Travel Quest Network, a Travel Leaders Network Associate. Public advisor listings place the pair in Paradise Valley, Arizona, though the site itself keeps its geography quiet, so we hold that address lightly.
The name did half the work of choosing this study. A lexicon is a stock of words, the working vocabulary a person actually commands, and an agency that calls itself one quietly claims that travel is a language with entries worth learning. The mark argued the other half. Its map pin tilts and folds like a wing, magenta at the rounded crown fading to deep blue at the point, and a tiny white airplane climbs across it trailing two short dashes. We press a lot of pins in this series. A pin that has learned to fly is rarer than it ought to be.

Blueberry follows the deep blue of the stacked wordmark, and fuchsia follows the magenta crown of the pin. Black carries the gold foil. One detail earned its keep in prototyping: the airplane and its dashes exist as white cutouts inside the gradient, which in leather means islands of untouched grain standing inside the deboss. They hold, though the dashes sit near the limit of what a cut die keeps crisp at tag scale.
Adventure, noun
For the companion we let the name lead and drew a dictionary page, notched along one edge like a thumb index. ADVENTURE stands as the headword with its part of speech beneath. Where the definition would begin, the entry sends you onward: SEE LEXICON TRAVELS. We set it portrait, so on a bag it hangs the way a bookmark hangs from a book.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
