MEG Travel Co. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study



From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

MEG Travel Co. is an independent travel practice in New Hampshire, and Megan Farrell is the advisor behind it. She designs slow, considered trips – above all the days before and after a European river cruise – for travelers who finally have time to travel the way they always wanted. She takes on a small number of trips each year so that each receives the time it deserves; Iceland and Slovenia sit on the current list, and every itinerary is built with room to breathe. Her first promise reads “Slow travel, planned with care.” and she serves clients nationally through an affiliation with OutsideAgents.com.

The line that stayed with us comes second on her homepage: “A trip is not a checklist. It is a chapter.” A practice that speaks in chapters ought, we thought, to keep a book somewhere about its person. As found, the identity is entirely typographic – cream serif capitals reading MEG, a smaller Travel Co. beneath, on a ground of deep navy. Handsome and quiet. The sentence supplies its own brief, so we pressed what exists first and then drew what the sentence seemed to ask for.

The mark this study proposes

An open book, spine down, its ribbon bookmark falling from the pages in the slow meanders a river takes across a valley floor. MEG TRAVEL CO sits beneath the book, and beneath that, IT IS A CHAPTER – the half of her sentence a luggage tag has room to keep. We worried a book might crowd at tag scale, which is why the drawing runs portrait and the ribbon does most of the talking.

Blueberry answers the deep navy of her site; gray-sand, the warm cream of her lettering. Black arrives as the automatic third and carries the gold foil.
