MIRA Travel Co. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
MIRA Travel Co. designs bespoke itineraries from Boston and promises, in its own words, “ungoogleable experiences”. Founder Tara Misra came to the work from brand and digital marketing, though the raising did most of it: her mother bought fine wine for a living, and her father was the family history buff. A childhood between those two appetites will make a travel designer of almost anyone. The name is her tell. MIRA stems from the Latin admirari, to wonder at, and the mark she owns is a Eurasian magpie in mid-flight, which the brand ties to wonder and to peaceful leadership.
The mark asked for the study before we did. The magpie climbs toward the upper right on two layered, pointed wings, a long split tail trailing behind, and beneath it the wordmark keeps strict scale discipline, big serif MIRA over small, widely spaced TRAVEL CO. One caution for anyone who handles this art: it is pale cream on transparency, and on a white screen it all but vanishes. Set it on their deep navy and the whole bird comes back. We did our looking there.
The mark, as found

Pressed
Blueberry follows the deep navy ground their cream identity flies on, and gray-sand follows the froth-pale bird and lettering. Black completes the set and takes the gold foil. The tail's two thin points are the risky part of any die, and we will know how they behave only when steel meets leather.

Ungoogleable
Magpies are collectors by reputation, so ours carries exactly one small suitcase, pressed above the words UNGOOGLEABLE EXPERIENCES. Tara counts one activity outside her comfort zone among her travel must-haves, alongside a hotel with a sense of place; a bird that packs a single bag and flies anyway seemed like her kind of traveler.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
