Monterra Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Monterra Travel is Jennie Jensen’s agency in Boise, Idaho, an independent affiliate of Travel Experts and through it part of the Virtuoso network. She came to planning by way of the aisle, spending nearly fifteen years as a United Airlines flight attendant before the nine years and more she has since spent designing trips herself, from family itineraries to cruises. Cruise-skeptics get a standing answer: “you just haven’t found the right cruise yet.” Off the clock she hikes and mountain-bikes the country around Boise, which matters for the leather that follows.
The mark is the reason for the study. MONTERRA TRAVEL runs in a thin, high-contrast serif above a smaller line – “a boutique travel agency” – whose opening a sits in teal while the rest stays charcoal. Hairline serifs are the honest test of a die. A heavy slab forgives a shallow strike; strokes like these taper toward nothing and either hold or smear. We wanted to find out which.
The mark, as found

Pressed lengthwise
We pressed the wordmark alone and let the small line rest; type that size fills in under a strike at tag width. A pale sea-blue answers the teal of that single letter, and a forest green stands in for the country outside Boise that Jennie hikes and rides. Black, as always, carries the gold.

Monte, terra
Monterra reads to us as mountain set on earth, monte on terra, and the companion design draws that reading plainly: a small peak resting on the curve of the earth, placed in the gap between MONTE and TERRA. Pressed, the curve becomes a horizon. If Jennie hears her own name differently, we would be glad of the correction.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
