New Horizon Baptist Church × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For New Horizon Baptist Church.

First, the name itself. The Cumberlands rise just north of town, so we set first light coming up behind their ridgeline and ringed it NEW HORIZON, LAFOLLETTE TENNESSEE.

Next, we took the church's own sentence – disciples made from home to the ends of the world – and drew it straight down a luggage tag: a small house at the top, and a road that leaves its doorstep and runs clean over the curve of the earth.

The trio runs forest green and golden tan. The black tag carries the road in gold. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then, one for the hands that serve. A pitcher pours out over a basin, the towel already laid across the rim, and beneath it two words the church lives by: LOVING OTHERS.

It sits small in the corner of the toiletry bags, warm country gray over dark espresso.

After that, one for LaFollette itself. The town began at Big Creek Gap, where the Cumberlands break open above Powell Valley, so we engraved the gap the way a county atlas would have – layered ridges, and the creek switchbacking down to the valley floor.

On the catchall tray in golden tan, for whatever the day turns out of your pockets.

And finally, the journals. Philippians 2:3–4 anchors the church's heart of serving, so the cover carries two full heads of wheat bowing toward each other – grain bows lowest when it is heaviest – around the verse's center: COUNT OTHERS MORE SIGNIFICANT.
