NorthRidge Church × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For NorthRidge Church.

For the warm-up, we put the NorthRidge wordmark on the luggage tags. The black tag carries it in gold foil. The golden tan and the pale greige tags take a blind deboss.

Next, we took the promise on the Groups page – out of rows and into circles – and drew the sentence itself: four rows sweep around into one circle, and the circle keeps its door open. We pressed it on the journals, in black and warm tan, where a group's next season gets written down.

Then, the mission – "Wake the World Up to Jesus." We gave the world the sun's job: half a globe crests the horizon with its rays already thrown, and the whole line arches over the morning. It went where mornings begin, on the keychains and on the toiletry bags.

The black fob carries the sunrise in gold. Its partner is golden tan.

The toiletry bags stack golden tan over dark espresso, with the same morning waiting in the corner.

And finally, the one we liked the most. Sixteen marks, one for each word of the mission, sit like seats drawn around a table, and the ring keeps a wide gap at the bottom – a place held open. We set it at the center of the golden tan catchall tray, so the object does what the group does: it holds what you bring, and it holds your place.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
