O'Bryan, Brown & Toner × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

An August study.

For O’Bryan, Brown & Toner.

The OBT monogram, pressed as drawn – the O leaning into the B, the T presiding over both. It runs lengthwise along the tag; navy and warm gray follow the two inks of the lockup, and a black tag closes the set. The black one carries the mark in gold.

Kentucky’s “Most Prolific Trial Law Firm” since 1998, by their own count – a firm that reads an exhibit sticker the way the rest of us read a boarding pass. So the second tag is one: DEFENSE EXHIBIT, the number left blank for the clerk, in tag-stock caramel and pale buff, with one in their navy.

“Bench tested” is their own phrase, and we took it at both of its words – the bench you work at and the one you argue before. The seal goes where the daily carry goes: key fobs in the lockup’s navy and gray, and the corner of the dopp kits, navy over dark espresso, for the trial that sits a few counties away.

A catchall tray in golden tan, stamped the way the clerk stamps the day’s evidence – ADMITTED, the date line left open. Whatever the pockets produce comes in without objection.

Every transcript begins at line one. On the journals it reads LET THE RECORD REFLECT, with lines two and three ruled and left empty – that part belongs to the writer. Navy for the firm’s blue, deep wine for the law library.
