OUTWARDEN × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

A September study.

For OUTWARDEN.

First, we designed a little logo for you. It turned out amazing. A seated hound, one ear up, drawn from circles and a single straight chest line – the creature who held this job first, back on shift. Under him we set OUTWARDEN in wide, even capitals, and around the pair we built a system of deep ward green and warm clay.

The OUTWARDEN brand board shows the seated hound system, wordmark and palette for a leather-stamping study.

Next, we let the hound sit alone as the app icon. Even at thumbnail size, the ear reads first.

Then we imagined him at work – a concept livery for a sidewalk guardian machine, wearing the mark the way a good dog wears its collar tag.

We sketched a street waypoint as well – a concept for the spot where the guardian rests and charges, the same hound at post height so the corner knows who keeps it.

And finally, we pressed the full lockup into a deep green leather journal, blind – a cover for the watch log. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
