Papergarten and XOXOart & Co. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For Papergarten and XOXOart & Co..

First, the warm-up. We took the papergarten script exactly as drawn and ran it the length of the luggage tags – pressed blind into paper greige and into a pale sea-blue borrowed from the XOXO letters. The black tag carries it in gold.

Next, we spelled XO with the tools of the house. Two crossed brushes make the kiss; a single round stroke of paint makes the hug. HUGS & KISSES runs beneath.

On the keychains it comes in warm red and pale sea-blue, the two colors the hearts and the letters already wear. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

The golden tan catchall tray takes the same stamp at full size – a landing place for whatever a studio day leaves in your pockets.

Then, a ranch brand for love itself. A branding-iron heart with the lone star inside, and the old song split around it – DEEP IN THE HEART arced above, OF TEXAS beneath. On the toiletry bags it presses deep into honeyed russet stacked over dark espresso.

And finally, the one for the journals. Everything either studio has ever made began as a mark on paper, so the cover carries a dog-eared sheet with a one-stroke heart already on it, and IT STARTS ON PAPER underneath. One journal in paper greige, the other in a deep garden green for the garten. It looks genuinely beautiful.
