Posh Travel, Ltd. × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Posh Travel, Ltd. is a boutique travel agency in Greenland, New Hampshire, a Virtuoso member agency run by its president, Kathy Burns Lamphier. Kathy opened Posh in 1988, ten weeks after leaving a corporate post where she managed a hundred-person team, and she has been advising travelers ever since – more than thirty-five years now, with all seven continents under her boots, Antarctica among them. The agency plans “bucket list” dream trips and tailors every detail to the person taking them; its own page counts private plane-side escorts and luggage services among the work. A travel office that will walk your bags to the plane deserved a luggage-tag study, and an office in a town called Greenland, run by a woman who has stood in Antarctica, deserved a small wink besides.
The mark is what pulled us in. At its left sits an illustrated vintage steamer trunk in deep forest green, pale straps crossing brass corner hardware. A small slanted label on its face reads POSH, and a thin gold rule runs rightward to a green serif stack reading POSH over TRAVEL. It is a drawn, owned device, and it already lives in the world of luggage. A trunk pressed into a tag that will hang from a trunk felt almost too neat. We pressed it anyway, setting the LTD aside so the stamp stays clean.
The mark, as found

Pressed lengthwise
Forest green comes straight from their trunk and wordmark, and warm caramel answers the brass and gold in the drawing. Black, as ever, carries the gold foil.

The Antarctic Porter
The companion piece is THE ANTARCTIC PORTER, a plump penguin in a small pillbox bellhop cap, one flipper reaching forward and down to grip the handle of a vintage steamer trunk. Bird and cargo share one ground line, and beneath it runs a single line of type, ALL SEVEN CONTINENTS. Kathy has stood on every one, and the seventh is where this porter clocked in. We drew the trunk to rhyme with the one in their mark and left the ice out of the frame; the cap says enough.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
