Rising Tide Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Rising Tide Travel is Elizabeth Cincotta’s travel firm, founded in Boston in 2019. The story behind it is a good one, and she tells it plainly on her own About page: she learned her father had taken more than thirty trips to Italy while she had joined none, and she decided to start making time. The journeys she designs now are deeply personal and timed exactly right, and her line for the whole discipline is “Luxury stops when the client starts thinking.” A luggage tag lives by that rule too. It does its best work once its owner has stopped thinking about it.

The wordmark asked for the press. It opens with a large ligatured capital, an R whose bowl and stem interlock and take the T along with them, above serif capitals reading RISING TIDE over a smaller TRAVEL. On her site it sits cream on deep navy. Interlocked strokes are a gift to a stamping die; they hold their shape under pressure where a thin flourish wanders.

Blueberry gives the monogram the deep navy ground it keeps at home, and gray-sand answers the warm cream of the original lettering. Black carries the gold, as it always does.

Out with the tide

Their current line reads “Your next adventure goes out with the tide.” So we drew a small suitcase riding a rising wave, with OUT WITH THE TIDE set beneath it. We tried the suitcase level first and it looked parked; tipping it into the crest gave it somewhere to be.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
