Rivers to Peaks Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Rivers to Peaks Travel plans journeys from Big Sky, Montana, and says every itinerary is built from scratch, out of firsthand experience and trusted partners, beginning with how the traveler wants to experience the world. The name reached founder Sam Johnson from his mother. Grit and integrity came down with it. So did care. Their own phrase is “Adventure, without compromise”, with “Luxury travel designed beyond the expected.” set beneath it, and the examples they reach for say what that means in practice: heli-skiing in Hokkaido, or sleeping under the stars in Namibia, the kind of travel meant to stir awe or a renewed wonder.
The mark is what put us at the bench. A circle of thin, irregular contour lines, drawn like a survey of high country, floats above stacked dark-teal capitals, and at the circle's center sits a small device, a horizontal oval crossed by a compact geometric ligature, something like a low-brimmed hat set down on a map. A family name rendered as terrain seemed to us worth carrying into a medium that also keeps things for generations. We will admit the contour field gave us pause; lines that fine are the hardest thing a deboss is asked to hold, and we wanted to see whether leather would keep them.

The full lockup went on portrait, device above the stacked name. Deep forest green follows the muted teal of the live mark, and pale gray-sand follows the faint contour treatment of their page. Black carries the gold foil.
“Adventure, without compromise”
One unbroken line begins as a river's meander and climbs into a mountain summit, with their phrase set beneath, pressed lengthwise along the tag. The whole name in a single stroke. We went back and forth on where the meander should turn to ridge; the render settles it more abruptly than we expected, and we have come around to the abruptness.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
