RLX Travel Group × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

RLX Travel Group plans luxury cruises and private-jet vacations from Searcy, Arkansas, under a line of their own making: “Helping You Live Your Dream One Vacation at a Time.” Founder Melissa Meredith Fail earned that line before she wrote it. She and her husband, both Army veterans (Melissa served as a pharmacy technician), sold their home and everything in it. A forty-foot diesel motorhome took its place, and for two years they crisscrossed the country in it, boarding cruises from whichever port happened to be near. Travel as obsession first, livelihood second.

The mark is what stopped us. A warm-gold monogram rides above the name, a small diamond at its crown and paired wings flaring wide beneath. Below the wings, chevrons and diamonds lock into a vertical knot, like straps cinched on a well-packed case. Then RLX TRAVEL in dark teal serif capitals, and GROUP spaced wide between two thin rules. Say the three letters aloud and the instruction hiding in them surfaces: relax. Whether Melissa intended that reading we can only guess.

Pressed

Blueberry follows the deep teal of their serif capitals, and caramel follows the warm gold of the monogram. Black carries the full lockup in gold foil. An early proof pressed the monogram alone, and it looked stranded above so much empty leather; the name and its rules went back in, and the tag settled.

One vacation at a time

The motorhome had to be here. We drew it from behind, the view the whole country got for two years, with an RLX plate on the tail and ONE VACATION AT A TIME set beneath it. A license plate is a small and honest place for a name, and the tail of a motorhome is where this story actually rode.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
