SAMO Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
SAMO Travel plans trips out of Manchester, New Hampshire. Owner Sam Hiland builds personalized cruises and all-inclusive vacations, and stays with a traveler from the first idea through the return home; planning, he says, should feel “exciting, not overwhelming.” A modest promise, and a hard one to keep.
The mark earned this study on its own. SAMO stacks over a widely spaced TRAVEL, all of it in heavy squared capitals that alternate navy with a warm red-orange. Look closer and tiny palm silhouettes are cut into the tops of two of the big letters, small drawings hiding inside the type. We also noticed that SAMO sits a single letter from Sam's own name. That reading is ours and we hold it loosely, though it made the lockup feel personal in a way block capitals rarely manage.
The mark, as found

Blueberry follows the navy letters and the spaced TRAVEL line, while poppy red answers the warm capitals in SAMO. Black carries the gold foil, as it always does.
The porthole
For the companion we drew a double ring, the kind you'd press your nose against on a lower deck, and put an island inside it. A five-frond palm curves over the low ground; two short dashes stand in for the water. SAMO TRAVEL holds the base of the ring, so the whole tag reads like a view already booked.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
