Sarah Fulghum × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies in leather.

An August study.

For Sarah Fulghum.

First, the baggage carousel. We drew a row of identical suitcases and filled in the right one, with YES THIS ONE overhead – the small relief your work keeps handing readers, pressed into the one object whose whole job is that relief.

The trio runs classic caramel, navy and black. The black tag carries the words in gold.

Next, two pails under the words KEPT SEPARATE, the clean one open and the dirty one filled to the brim. We borrowed the logic from your case against mopping out of a single bucket, and it turns out to be sound packing doctrine too – so the duo comes in pale greige and deep espresso, the clean water and the dirty.

Then, a suitcase coming down under a full parachute, A SUITCASE WITH BACKUP beneath it. You once explained a checking account as a wallet with backup; we extended the policy to luggage, in navy and warm red.

For the ones who hold the fort while the suitcase is away: a row of cats with BACK BEFORE THE CATS NOTICE above them. We colored the trio like a small band of rescues, from true black through honeyed russet to warm gray. The black tag takes the words in gold.

The cats look ridiculously good in leather.

Next, the reviewer's verdict made permanent: four and a half stars over WOULD PACK AGAIN. An honest rating always keeps half a star in reserve for the spill risk. The duo runs deep wine and pale greige.

And finally, a cardinal perched on a mailbox with the flag up, HOMEWARD underneath. Wherever the suitcase ends up, this one points back to Virginia – in pine green and warm caramel.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
