Siouxland Travel & Tours × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
Siouxland Travel and Tours has been sending Orange City, Iowa out into the world since 1979. Owner Laurie Roesner started there as an eighteen-year-old work-study student and bought the agency in 2007 – the kind of succession story small towns write best. They run escorted group tours, nineteen to four hundred travelers at a time, under a tagline that earns its press: travel with a name you trust. Their mark is a gull, soaring out of a solid disc.
The mark, as found

Pressed lengthwise
A pale sea-blue for where the gull is headed, caramel for forty-six years of trust, and black for the gold pass.

The escort
Then the second die, for what an escorted tour looks like when gulls do it: one big bird out front, three smaller ones in formation behind. Everyone lands together.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
