The Concierge Travel Group × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

The Concierge Travel Group is a boutique travel agency in Westfield, New Jersey, designing “bespoke luxury experiences” and “ultra indulgent honeymoons” for travelers who want the whole trip built from scratch. The founding story happened mid-trip, which is rare and worth repeating. Over ten years ago, on her own honeymoon, founder Carli Fernandez was zipping around a curve on the Kauai coast when the idea arrived; “The Honeymoon Concierge was officially born before our plane landed back home,” the site recalls. A decade and several “Best of the Knot” awards later, that first agency grew into The Concierge Travel Group, still starting every itinerary with a long consultation and a client's own passions.

Their wordmark asked for the study. A small script The, set in a face the site names as Oakley Script, floats above CONCIERGE in wide Goldenbook serif capitals, with TRAVEL and GROUP tucked underneath. On the live pages it runs cream on dark, and a teal stamp device travels alongside as a second signature. Two type voices in one lockup will often argue under a stamping die. This one keeps enough air between its parts that we wanted to see the argument settled in leather.

Pressed

Blueberry and turquoise take the deep water and the shallow water of the brand's own blues. Black carries the gold foil. Our worry was the script The, since thin strokes can close up under a deep press; it held, though on the turquoise we would still cut the die a touch shallower.

Ring for wanderlust

A concierge desk bell in bold outline, freshly struck, with two short arcs still ringing off its left shoulder. From the press-button a dashed contrail climbs toward the upper corner, where a small plane is already leaving, nose up. Somewhere on their homepage sits a parenthetical promising that they speak wanderlust fluently; this drawing is our attempt at the accent. RING FOR WANDERLUST runs beneath the base in plain capitals, and the whole design is pressed lengthwise on the same leathers.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
